Charlotte D. moved and Bob F. seconded that we dispense with the reading of last month’s minutes since the new Secretary forgot to print a copy from which to read.

Co-Treasurer Gary Lewis reported a balance of $2,888.30.

The bulk of the business portion of the meeting concerned our upcoming Beekeeping School on Saturday February 22, 2014.  We have not found an affordable caterer. Becky F. agreed to check additional options in Maysville area.  Bruce B. offered to donate bottled water from Cowan Honey Station. Bob Fore continues to do a great job coordinating and seeking additional vendors and speakers.

Setup for the school will occur Friday February 21 from 5:00 to 7:30pm. Registration will open Saturday at 8:00am so volunteers assisting should arrive by 7:30am. The Fores, Barnes and Charles indicated they would be available for cleanup.  Additional volunteers will be welcome.

All attendees introduced themselves in round robin fashion.

We then discussed plans for having a program as part of each meeting in the future to enhance the educational opportunities for our members. Each of us should consider and suggest topics or even speakers of interest. Kevin Hale surveyed the attendees regarding losses to date during this harsher than usual winter.  He also discussed the wisdom of checking hives if there is a day with a temperature above 50F. This inspection should not involve disturbing the cluster, merely assessing the food stores available to our bees and providing supplemental food if needed.

One final business item: Charles F. looked into a company that can produce hats with our logo. Charles M. moved and Charlotte D. seconded that we authorize him to order 50 hats for sale to club members and school attendees.

The meeting adjourned at 8:05pm. Various side discussions about our beloved bees continued after the formal end of the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Becky Fontes, Secretary
